Relevance and sustainability seem to be the key imperatives for the museum today. Accessibility is part of relevance, insuring that the public can not only see how the museum is caring for "their" objects. The other part of relevance then, is discovering what the community needs, sometimes even when the members of the community haven't themselves discovered.

And is there a direct connection between the relevance and sustainability, does relevance guarantee it?

I didn't know that if I wanted to see something from the collection the GEH would try to accommodate me on the spot!!

So many missed opportunities.

Do you have any photos of the Beatles and their entourage when they were in India with the Maharishi? I bet you do.

I think that the GEH needs to commemorate the Beatles' visit to India 40 years ago somehow with images. The Beatles helped propagate the emergence of Eastern though and mysticism through their music. Their music, lyrics and interviews fromthe period increased awareness of Meditation and Yoga in the west, especially among young people, in ways that have big repercussions today.
